Hi Steve, jacarandas as a small bonsai are not very easy as their leaves do not reduce in size to suit a smallish (read 30-40cms) tall bonsai. If you decide to then make. Big bonsai (read Close to. Metre it more) then I think you would need to plant it in the ground or a grow pot to build. Trunk thickness and taper through 4-5 seasons of chop and grow. And from the 6th odd season do branch work. I have a few Jac's but all of them I have planted in the ground and waiting...... There are a few good links in this platform of a really good Jac bonsai. That thread would be very helpful for this one too and will give you the context I mentioned about reduction of leaf size.

Grow pot is just a large pot which has more space for the tree to grow.
