Can't tell if you're joking or not. I'd snip those roots off the outside to encourage inner growth. I've got a ficus nerifolia growing in a colander under lights in my room. The goal was to improve the roots and so far I've seen a few little roots popping out of the side, which is incredibly encouraging.

G'day,

It's probably getting a bit late in the season to repot figs but I didn't get around to this one until this morning.

I'm not happy with the trunk line or taper so I will be trunk chopping it next Spring to create more movement.

Regards,
Steven

Hi Steven, if you get in under the trunk with knuckle cutters clean out any downwards growing roots and scar underneath the trunk this will assist in getting really great basal flare.

Has anyone used boons mix to do this, or is everyone using the sand?

Hi Josh,

:imo: any free draining mix will work well. Because you are fertilising heavy with DL, the ability to drain is very important to prevent fertiliser burn. Boon's mix should be great. a sand mix should be fine too as long as the fines/silt is removed.

Happy figging.
