Thanks for sharing that Toni !! As a beginner I am guilty of not understanding the importance of this process and I'm sure it's appreciated by everyone.

:2c: Excellent tutorial, especially the various areas of the root ball being reduced ensuring maximum sap flow to thicken the trunk without disturbing the tree too much( removal of no more then a third rule). While Squamata is excellent for this type of root work , junipers such as shimpaku may suffer from this...

Thanks for the bump...just bought one for $6 extremly root bound, plenty of healthy growth on it....would you recommend me cutting the root ball in 1/2 and raking out? or just leave it for a season? would i also have to trim the foliage back? I just raked the sides and bottom out a bit
