Hi Guys

It's time to work on your Brachychiton's.

Lift it out of the pot and remove soil. (its ok to bare root , wash soil of with low pressure hose) Cut back roots thicker than a pencil to encourage finer roots (dry and dust with rooting hormone)

Roots thicker than your thumb cut and seal with A.T.C.S Tree Wound Dressing, 2 coats allow to dry overnight. Healthy trees can stay bare rooted for a couple of days if kept cool.

Use deeper than standard bonsai pots and allow for 50 to 100mm of soil below roots . Lots of water through summer growing period .

Best of Luck

Milo

Hi Milo
I'm a bit worried about mine. The leaves went reddish, a few leaves dropped, buds are just pushing and the leader is just opening
Is it still okie dokie to do what you have mentioned?

Hi Max
Sorry about slow reply . At Tumut you probably have a shorter growing period. and through the winter very little water is needed. If the plant hasn't been repotted for a few years the roots will be sitting on the bottom of the pot in water. Repot and ensure at least about 50mm of soil under roots when repotting. Cut back large roots and dust with rooting hormone.

Best of luck
