I love this treatment, once you select your branches and position them it will look fantastic.
I look forward to following your progress.

IMO this is a vast improvement over an already beautiful tree.

Mike

This is a magic tree, I appreciate your observation of street tree treatment, and the trials before attempting on this beauty.

2 months in and it doesn't seem to have skipped a beat :tu:

Looking fantastic with the new canopy already - no doubt it will be an absolute stunner (again!) as you work on the new growth.

Any nervous moments during the process or things you'd contemplate doing differently next time? Asking just out of interest really and the opportunity to learn as it looks like you absolutely nailed it given the results......

Thanks for the comments,

Steve B

Nervous for the first couple of weeks but a risk I had to take. As this is the first time I have done this on a good tree, there will be areas that I will consider I could of done better. But this is the same for all my trees.

Hi Peter, I really like this tree :tu2:

Do you constantly trim the new growth to keep it in check or let it grow out and trim it back harder less often? I have a few nicholii I'm playing with and am never sure what's best - they put out a lot of growth this time of year!

Looking good Peter
Regarding the colour of the trunk, this last photo shows the trunk with a greyish bark whilst in the photo before that the trunk is a orange colour. Does the bark shed on E. nicholii?

Hi Edward,

When I have problems with mealy bug I strip some of the bark off so they dont have anywhere to hide. The narly, darker bark will come back over time.
Yes, I will cut it back aroud Christmas.
Jase,

I pinch the new growth. If there is a lot and I am not getting ready for display I use sissors.

Peter

Beautiful tree Peter. That trunk is awesome. You have inspired me to give natives a go and in particular the nicholii. I look forward to seeing how you develop this tree and I think I will learn much from it.
