I was discussing the Varnished Gum, Eucalyptus vernicosa with Mike (treeman) and decided to work an old one that was sitting forgotten in a corner of my garden. The tree and some further information can be found on my blog.

This is its first incarnation on its journey to becoming bonsai.

Beautifully done. Any idea wether they will survive in warmer climates?

Thanks for the positive response, great to see a few people who are as interested in this species as I am. There is a great deal more to explore with these little guys. :reading:

I cannot comment on regards to survivability in warmer climates, however at a guess they may be sustained if shaded throughout the growing season and slightly over potted (by aesthetic standards). I would suggest no more then subtropical range.

Here is one I have been growing for a few years,

I bought this one as small nursery stock from Will Fletcher after the last convention in Tasmania.

Plan is to wire it soon. I have had some die here but this one powering on , slowly.

Not sure about seeds, plants are showing available at Tassie Nursery. 50mm forestry tube $12.50 plus postage.

Thanks Susan
I'll see what they say.
I know this is a specialty line but this is ridiculous. It's easier to buy in the UK than here!!

Takeaway and delivery can be difficult, but Will does Pick Up service.

If your going to the Convention next week, there is a tour to his nursery afterwards.

They seem to be a bit marginal in Canberra, whether it's too hot in summer, or too generally dry I don't know. I doubt that they'd be happy much further north.

In Canberra I am keeping the Euc V slightly in the shade over summer , but it gets enough sun and it definitely loves the cold of winter here.

Just discussing it a few weeks ago with Gavin, I told him it seems to lose a bit of the apex each year, but not enough to damage its shape. Odd, but I don’t grow a lot of Eucs and they all seem to lose some branches somewhere each year.
