Just a couple of eucalypts

This morning I visited Dean Nicholle, who runs the Currency Creek Arboretum, to pick up some eucalyptus seedlings. These were meant to be collected at the Arboretum open day that was unfortunately cancelled. Ian, who grew the trees, very kindly threw in some extras in addition to the six that I purchased.

Yes some interesting ones in there for sure. My wife had her eye on one of the small-leaved ones to use as a "normal" tree - nope, all mine, sorry!

Just a quick update on these - after repotting and removing about half the roots of each I had two casualties: one of the untagged ones, and one minniritchii that I had two of - so not too bad really.

So far the ones to watch in terms of back-budding are: gunii, dielsii, rosacea (lots of strong backbudding), caesia (has also thickened up quickly), kessellii, urnigera, and archeri.

The rest are still doing okay - some have put on a bit of new growth while others have just sat as they are since having their roots messed with (fair enough I reckon). I'm going to give them all their first dose of Charlie Carp today.

I'm pretty excited about the kruseana as this has put on a fair bit of new growth and, so far, has nice small leaves close together. The rosacea is also pretty nice - small thin leaves (so far), plenty of back budding and a nice weeping habit to it. Time will tell if the smaller juvenile leaves on these give way to larger leaves.

If Eucs are healthy and not exhibiting root problems and aren't badly pot-bound, I wouldn't repot or cut roots at that time of year in Adelaide.
I'd stick with November.

Yep Summer is my preference - most of these tubestock were from previous years so very badly pot-bound! I did the root work back in March and the weather was still quite warm back then.

I have high hopes for the dielsii. It lost a few leaves after the repot but seems to be recovering well now.

The synandra is one that hasn't done anything - it hasn't grown at all since I've had it but also hasn't gone backwards. It came with some bonus tiny seedlings in the tube which have put out a couple of small leaves but these haven't done much for a while now either. Hopefully they take off in spring.

I'll grab a photo of these tomorrow.

Behold the synandra, in all its glory!

On a serious note there are roots starting to show at the bottom of the pots, so both the larger plant and the three smaller seedlings are doing something beneath the soil. I like the shape of the leaves so hopefully they do take off in spring.

I like the leaves too. It will be interesting to see what happens come Spring/summer. The E. Rosacea on your list is that not the same plant? Thanks for the pic’s

The rosacea leaves are a lot smaller than the synandra, more similar to E. nicholii. It also has a nice drooping style going for it which is cool.
