Leptospermum thompsonii seed

Post by greg27 »

I'm trying to focus my efforts on Aussie natives, particularly eucalypts and leptospermum. All I have so far is some roughly wired tubestock but I really like the leptos - small leaves, nice bark, lovely colours and pretty flowers (which wins bonus points with a somewhat-sceptical wife).

L. thompsonii, the Monga Tea-tree, caught my eye when trawling the web: https://www.anbg.gov.au/gnp/interns-200 ... sonii.html

From what I can tell it's not available commercially, so the only way to grab one would be to (very illegally) collect from the wild or (by the sounds of it still illegal but IMO much less illegally) collect seed from a wild specimen. Does anyone have a thompsonii, or does anyone feel inclined to collect seed? It looks like its localised to only a few specific locations in NSW: https://canberra.naturemapr.org/Communi ... ings/14371

I'd really love to be able to grow these, both for bonsai and because growing a threatened species could help keep it going!

Yeah you might not have luck finding that exact species for sale but the ANPS Autumn Plant Sale is on 21st March. They will have a lot of leptospermum species for sale. Just get there early as it can be madness otherwise.
