I gave this tree a better pot a couple of weeks ago, and a trim and a wire today.
The pot is a little large but this thing is a prolific grower so I expect it to fill out and fit it in no time.

Yep - more lovely stuff from R3. I will add that I’d find it hard to believe many other folk achieve what he does between a rooftop and a basement. No work area - and great output. And a great cat!

Yeah… going from plastic to clay seems to lift things a bit in terms of aesthetics/cred. In this tree’s case it also means it doesn’t tip over so much when the wind blows either… win/win!

You gotta do what you can do with the space you have. It’s not as big as I’d like, but I try and maximise output from minimal space. I spend a lot of time on stairs… walking up, walking down!

That might be true Watto but you could also say…
“just because it’s in a bonsai pot doesn’t make it a bonsai”
I do agree though that transitioning a developing tree out of a training pot and into a bonsai container is one of the best parts of the process.

I envy those who have the process of transferring from a training pot to a bonsai container without any problems. It didn't always go smoothly for me! I keep learning...

Just an update… this thing grows incredibly fast, all the time!
Another cut back today… it never stops with this thing.

Spent this morning re-wiring …. I’m hoping after all that effort it’ll be good for a few months. A lot of time spent getting to this point, hard to tell from the photos but pads are developing and I think it’s gonna look pretty sweet as things fill out.

The detail is intense and wonderful, but might I suggest that the outline is straightforward, and does not match the complexity of the detailed branches? Maybe some ins-and-outs, light and shade, density and open-ness? It's a great tree, showing years of intelligent care, but maybe you could (cough) mess it up a little?

STRICTLY only my opinion - it's a very fine tree as it stands. Well done. Damn fine.
