Garden dig

Post by NeilC »

Hello All,
Just after some advice, I have a Leptospermum Cardwell app 1metre tall in the ground, hard clay soil.
What’s the ideal time to dig out please?

Hi Neil,

I've had success digging in the warmer months. Dug a couple leptos mid December 2020 and they all survived.

Good luck. Keep us updated how you go.

Some experienced native growers report they can dig and repot natives in Melbourne any time of year but if there is a choice I would also wait till warmer weather.

Although I haven't dug a Lepto, I did bare-root one and leave the pot in a shallow water bath, on advice - it may help after a garden dig.
