Melaleuca Ralph I think? Ok to repot now?

Hey guys, can I please get an ID on this beautiful little shrub.

Gave it a good selection prune yesterday and removed the top 2 inches of soil and roots.

Would I be ok to reduce the rootball this week by a farther 60 %

Want to get it into a more shallow pot?

Cheers

Not a Mel, that's Leptospermum laevigatum (A.K.A. Coastal Tea Tree).

Pretty sure it’s not Rhaphiophylla... leaf shape doesn’t look right, it reminds me more of Nesophila but I’m just guessing on that... I think it looks more like Leptospermum Laevigatum (Coastal Tea Tree) to be honest.
In terms of root reduction, I just did an Ericifolia and Leptospermum of some kind in the last 2 weeks. Both seem fine, and you’ve got a bit warmer weather in Perth so that is a plus. Having said that, I’ve had pretty slow recovery from Nesophila after a repot with big root reduction, so if it is that species of Mel, just remember some species are less robust than others.

Bark looks too papery to be Coastal Tea-tree to me. Also leaves are very tight (short internodes) and look too firm and fleshy. I don't know which one, but it could be a Mel.

Just looked at some leaf types and it could be M.nesophila.

Acacia howittii. The upright shrub/tree version, not the weeping selection?

Don’t think so grant. This is a type of paper bark tree. I have owned a couple of sticky wattle in my time. And the only thing similar is the leaf shape.

What do u reckon guys, repot now or wait until October?

My initial thought was M. nesophila too, based on the leaf shape, colour of the new growth and the look of the bark. Hard to say from a photo without flowers though, and the leaves are a lot smaller than my nesophila. Either way I think it's safe to treat a mel similarly to a lepto in terms of repotting time so I'd do as Kirky said and go for it now. It looks like you have some nice warm weather coming up out west.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I found the tag buried under the soil I removed and it stayed little Nessie. So yea is a. Nesophilea.
