Dwarf pomegranates

Hi all,
I was at a lady’s place helping myself to her firewood when I noticed these sad trees in her garden. On closer inspection I was excited to see they were drawn pomegranates. After a bit of back and forth they said I could have them for free - score!! However, they look and feel really neglected. There was no need to dig them out and it pull right out of the soil. I hope they will pull through - nothing lost, nothing gained!!
Pics to come

They actually might be too far gone?

They don't look too good. Leaves don't usually hang on the branches over winter. Is there any green cambium under the bark? Just scratch or cut off a small branch and see what it looks like inside.

They look like they didn’t get water through summer and died to me.

Yeah I haven’t had the chance to check on the cambain. Compared to dwarf pomegrates ive seen around the place, the leaves should be yellow with fruit still hanging on. Such a pity.

I would still check the cambium down close to the roots before discarding them. The tops maybe gone but you never know Roots can surprise you.

It’s not green. But kinda fleshy. I might just put them back into the grow box and see if anything happens.

Guy,
Scored another tree. I’m thinking it’s a drawf pomegranate - can any verify? It had spikes on it. Dig it out front of a house I’ve been eying for a while.

Did you just knock on their front door and ask if they wanted it removed??

Yes, I’ve been eyeing it out for ages. Knocked and said it’s before your fence and I would like to take it please ( you can see the footpath in the pic). They said sure. 30 mins later I got it out. There was a smaller one next to it, but wasn’t worth taking.
