Re: species which grow from root cuttings
Melia azedarach (some call it white cedar amongst other names) shoots from roots in potted trees, even without disturbance.

Re: species which grow from root cuttings
Depends on the species MP. These below are root cuttings I took on 25th November 10. Today is 7 Jan 11 so it's been 43 days. They are all just chunks of the roots I cut off. Some of them were just lumps cut from one heavy large root that was removed.

Re: species which grow from root cuttings
Another couple to add to the list are Glochidion and Toona, both native & both grow very easy from root cuttings. Glochidion will also sucker madly if surface roots are disturbed.
Joel,
Ginkgo do strike from root cuttings easily, I had 2 tho both died in the garden (too dry).

Coprosma, English Elm, Quince. I wonder who will finalize the list seeing the threadstarter has gone walkabout.

Re: species which grow from root cuttings
Although you probably wouldn't grow a bonsai from one, Pawlonia grow easily from roots too.
There's not many natives on the list yet but I have a few Exocarpus grown from root cuttings.

Re: species which grow from root cuttings
This is such an informative thread ,a shame to see it lost in 2011. I would like to see it updated and maybe times for taking root cuttings added to it. I would take it on but am too much of a newbie to have tried any yet. Give me time though!
