The beginnings of something

This is a tristaniopsis I picked up at the wholesalers a year or so back and its treatment thus far has been a trunk chop and a new leader grown for a season. I think it might need a season or two more before anymore work but I have posted it on here for the purpose of keeping track of its development.

Are you going to cut back to larger branch or is that justa sacrifice?
If cutting back to there then I woud do now so the scar starts to heal

Thanks for the response ken.

I wasnt sure if the tristaniopsis got die back badly so I experimented by cutting higher last year. I cant see a lot of evidence that dieback will be an issue so once the growth starts pumping I will cut back closer to the first left branch which will become the new leader. The other back branches will stay and hopefully help the scar heal over better.

I will be starting my natives in the next month once it starts to warm up and show positive growth again.

Like most natives, They can be done all thru the spring / Summer months.

Ok so I have just repotted this over the weekend when the temp came down a bit. I have taken more than 50% of a standard 300mm pot of with a hand saw and raked out the remainder of the roots.

I have posted a few angles but noted which I think the front should or has to be. Probably not essential yet.

We are only at the second trunk section Ken. I dont think we can class it as copying yet.

Hi Fiona.

Thanks for showing interest. I have just had a look at this tree and there isn't a lot to report. I have cut back just recently and am waiting for some re growth. There area few tiny red shoots appearing so should have something to show soon.

Hi Fiona.

This is the tree at the moment. As you can see I am patiently waiting for the new growth. It may be hard to tell but the thicker branch at the back is the new trunk section and it has a few shoots which will give me options for the next trunk section. The two smaller branches at the front will remain as sacrifice branches and should also help the scar to recover more quickly.

here is an update on this tristaniopsis. It has responded well to my lack of attention. Gee I wish I had enough time to care for my trees properly

Anyhow I might cut that next large section later this spring or summer to get the next angle change. I am growing this one like a trident. lets hope I get an interesting trunkline.
