Tree ID and growing tips
Hi all, I recently collected seed from a local street tree and all seem to have germinated, could someone ID the tree and is it any good for bonsai?
Sorry about the orientation.
Thanks, John

Re: Tree ID and growing tips
Hi John its a gum treee (eucalyptus ) and some people choose to bonsai them but the large leaves make it a challenge. Im sure if you look there will probably past threads about them.

Thanks sheepdog, would close up of leaves, seed pods, trunk help? I can whip down and take more pics easily enough. I can't seem to find any images online of pods that hang in clusters like they do on this tree.

Hey mate, stick the photos you have currently and your location on the Facebook group "Nuts About Gums". Some very knowledgeable people there, especially Dean Nicholle who's "the guy" when it comes to eucalypts.
Some species do reduce fairly well so IMO worth keeping one or two to bonsai as an experiment!

Re: Tree ID and growing tips
Trunk, leaf pictures to show size, and fruits. Will also need location because that will narrow down the ID hugely. Hopefully it's not one of these species that require juvenile leaves or pollen grains to ID lol

Well done Dawg,
I could not place those fruits but they are a good match and other characteristics fit too so I'll second Angophora costata

Re: Tree ID and growing tips
Thanks sheepdawg and shibui, I will have another look at some images, I have been unable to find any seed pods in clusters like these, but I will bow to your knowledge.
Many thanks guys.
