Re: BANKSIA INTEGRIFOLIA AS BONSAI
Hi Matt and Dario
I sealed the cut with Kiyonal on the Banksia serrata that I did a few weeks ago. The cut was about 40 - 50mm accross, so fairly big, and the tree is just going beserk with new buds popping all over.

Looking better all the time
Still not sure about the pot

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Re: BANKSIA INTEGRIFOLIA AS BONSAI
The lighter foliage patterns focusses attention on the strength and "crankiness" of the branches. The smaller clumps are arranged very finely. And it's good to see the silvery undersides in contrast with the green tops. Great tree. I will personally dispose of the pot.

Re: BANKSIA INTEGRIFOLIA AS BONSAI
Hi all,
I am preparing this tree for the coming Canberra AABC Convention. It stand 84cm from the bottom of the pot to the round apex.
I spent about an hour this morning doing the obvious light trimming necessary.
I will need to spend another few hours in about four weeks time to remove any old/damaged leaves and trim off leaves hanging down under the branches.
Give the pot a clean and polish; clean and polish the slab of burl it will be presented on etc.

The trees are going to be photographed for the Canberra Bonsai Society at the show in a systematic way so they can be posted on the CBS website after the Convention.lackhand wrote:Fantastic tree Grant, thanks for sharing! Post some pics of it on display for those of us who can't make it there.

Re: BANKSIA INTEGRIFOLIA AS BONSAI
UPDATE.
Sorry,
This is going to have to be a bit of a tease.
This tree has just undergone a fairly major restyle and repot and the process was recorded for an upcoming article in the BCI magazine to help promote the AABC Convention in 2014 in Qld.
Anyhow the pics were taken with available light in my new and now almost finished Bonsai studio against the wall. It comes up well I feel without having to muck around with backgrounds.

Re: BANKSIA INTEGRIFOLIA AS BONSAI
Hi,
The pot I ending up selecting for the tree was my second choice for the restyle of the banksia but the pot I brought back from China was not big enough. The pot I brought back in my luggage was 48cm wide by 14cm high. It survived the transport in a hardened case and was well packed, but it just wasn't big enough. Its a very nice pot and will certainly be good for pines, junipers etc.
The pot I ended up using was from Kinston Wang and measures 56cm x 14cm. Same depth but wider. I needed the extra depth over the original pot to do what I had in mind with the restyle. The pot leached some salts for a few weeks but after a clean up with water and baby oil it is doing fine. It is a nice looking pot.

After the restyle the new growth is going gang busters all over.
Here is the tip of the very lowest branch elongating as part of the further restyle.
