Thanks Guys, much appreciated,
Tyrone, yes it's come along way, still some to go yet ,

Tony and Jarrod , i didn't trim back as far as i should of yet because i'll do that when the new growth comes this spring. Some of those branches are from last year and grew wat too long, so they need reducing a fair amount  also the right lower branch needs some more branching this year. I agree that a slightly shallower pot would be better,

A random picture from today, I have done some more branch pruning and the graft donor is growing this time  , bud burst seem to be earlier than last season and it's still cool so not all buds are moving yet :x .

This one is from last week when the leaves were just opening, i wasn't going to show it because the tree looks funny but here it is, so don't laugh  .

:gday: All, , ;)

I have had several people who , when viewing this tree in person have said to me "Oh is it only that small, it looks much bigger on the site" :lost: , I have on numerous occasions posted the actual size of this tree, however, there's still is some confusion. so i thought i'd post some reference pics, 1 with a 2ltr milk bottle and 1 with a rule, oh and 1 of the graft, ,
The Elm is 300mm from rim of pot, 370mm from bottom of pot,, hope you like  Thanks..

:gday: all, i am about to wire some new growth before it lignifies, so here are the before pics :) The left side of the tree is being constantly pinch to allow more energy on the right side as it needs more branching on that side,,

Hi Craig,

The 2ltr milk bottle alongside the tree is a very good idea. Measurements can mean very little to some people, I am one of those.
Great works :aussie:

:gday: all' ,,so the tree has now been wired again, some selective pruning of branches also being done. I felt the lower branches needed to be pulled down a little ,so i used a couple of guy wires to pull them down  ,The left side of the tree is being constantly pinch to allow more energy on the right side as it needs more branching on that side. I now work to improve branch structure , taper along them and the overall ramification .It's coming along nicely now ,, your thoughts would be appreciated,, :) thanks

i saw this tree some time ago in the flesh at craigs house...the pictures to me still dont do the tree any justice..
I was told thru someone else the other week that
while "Hiro" was here in Perth the other week for bonsai workshop he stated "we dont carve deciduous trees"..
It looks pretty good to me...
I guess bonsai is in the eye of the beholder....LOL ;)

The Japanese as a whole do not carve deciduous trees, the do however carve Prunus. The western world does because we see them more than the Japanese do.

This is not a bad little tree, and with Craigs care it will be a very nice tree.

Cheers Pup
