I am potting this one into Akadama
A mix of 8-2 Akadama and Coarse river sand
Tree was purchased 18 months ago and been in this larger training pot until I can rebuild the top. I am trying to approach graft a new leader there as the original broke off.
these trees are So brittle

What the tree or Natalie
the tree is coming along nicely, but sometimes I wonder about Nat

With a father like me she has no hope
Hey Bodi
this is relaxing, My other options were to do some concreting, or finish up running some power out to my bonsai area. They will both happen next week now

How is this tree comming along ken?
Do you have any tips for repotting these ? When do you think is the best time and how much of the root system can be removed safely?

I'm not experienced with howittii, but I've done mine after flowering (a fortnight ago in Canberra) before the new season's growth sets off. I treat them fairly gently, a third of the roots off at a time, no bare-rooting, free-draining mix, but not too different from what's already there, otherwise the roots may not grow out. Shade and care for a fortnight, then back on deck. Never cut back beyond the last few leaves. they may bud back on last year's wood, but less likely onto anything older. Fertilised with Charlie Carp through the growing season when I remembered, no trouble flowering this spring. Ken may have other ideas.
Good luck,
Gavin

Actually I agree with what Gavin mentioned pretty much word for word
Mine suffered over winter on has not flourinshed, so at the moment is on my sheltered benches recovering. Doing well now for a month so will repot soon once the weather ond work calms down

.
Seasol after repotting for a month, then liquid fert fortnightly.

Thanks for replys .
Would I be ok to repot mine now ? I was thinking of cutting the root ball in half with a saw and loosen the soil around the sides a bit .
its in a normal plastic pot.
I'm going to put it in a hanging basket !
