Hi Mitchell,
On an aside to your good starter bonsai- did you get the Hypnodendron to live? That is the moss with the little black stalks that look like miniature palm trees in your top photo?
It is a very cool moss which I would love to grow but suspect it would not live at my home where it is so hot!

Yes mate I did!!
I tried several times to keep it and it dies. I have found though, I believe it is dieing back because it thinks it has been dislodged from the substrate and goes into a state of hibernation till it is happy it's in the right environment.
Every time I collect it dies back and seems dead. Leave it in a cool moist environment and it will re-shoot after a few months!!
The bunch I collected for the fig and planted on it in pic died back after shot but is now growing again. I have just used that same batch, in my Australian landscape thread in the setting.
viewtopic.php?f=104&t=6601 but there isn't a shot of it in there. It is part of the little fern, moss garden half way along the creek.
