do we need a shohin section in the forum???

My two i got are the top 2 i posted, recently defoliated and budding back well now. Its pouring rain again here atm, I have potted them in quite small pots but think they work ok ,pretty sure the first one is a old pat kennaday pot, ill have to check the bottom to confirm again nice ones dave

yes I picked them straight away.Looking good !
Whilst trying to develop branching, I try to overpot to speed up the process and then pot down later
At least with the rain, you mightn't have to water.

Has plenty of faults but a nice nebari.

Really nice work dave, did you grow that ones nebari or did you purchase it somewhat already there...

I would imagine that it has a nice bit of age to it, do you know it's origins?

Hi Scott,
tree grown from seed 1980 with the terrific base developed by Lambert Wellington , one of the best growers in the business. Pity he sold all his trees a couple of years back.
I have had the tree from about 1999 and have continued the refinement of it whilst I remain the custodian for the next generation of bonsai enthusiast.

That is the URL of the shohin section of the German forum "das Bonsai Fachforum". It's a major forum, possibly the best in Europe. You don't need to register or to know German to see the photos. I thought it especially interesting for us because it shows shohin at all levels and all stages, grown by fans like you and me. I don't know of any other forum that has a shohin section. As far as shohin growing in Europe goes, I think that as a nation the U.K. probably beats every other country, but I may be wrong. Do people here remember Jürgen Zaar from Germany, who was a headliner at the AABC in Melbourne, I think in 2003? What we didn't know then is that Jürgen is a master shohin grower. excuse my ignorance as I have been out of the Bonsai loop for a few years and can't recall "Kanuma".
I'm assuming it is a clay potting medium, but correct me if I'm wrong.
It is potted in my regular potting medium that I have been useing for years

Pretty much, a volcanic soil good for Satsuki, but it is yellow. The top of your soil looks a lot like the finest grade, is it just a soil dressing like coarse sand?

Some great tree's being posted - in fact 78 so far. Unfortunately only from 11 people. We still need shohin sized bonsai posted from another 9 members to show enough interest for the proposed shohin section on the forum
