Hi Marleeny and Edward Thanks for the welcomes, I am heading to canberra tues,wed,thurs to check out the national exhibit, I will be back at the nursery Thursday afternoon. Thurs,Friday, Sat etc would be great to see you Marleeny. You are more than welcome to stop in at the nursery tues-thurs but I won't be here. You are right the south coast is a beautiful area and there is a stack of interested people in bonsai down here. I am directing as many as I can to this site. Beautiful work! It is lovely to hear of other nurseries other than the ones in Sydney. I will certainly be down in the next week. Do you also have bonsai starters etc? I am a novice to bonsai and wish I had more time to practice this lovely art. I do look forward in going to Bonsai at the Bay. This is a very friendly site and a most helpful one

Yes Marleeny I have over 1000 starter bonsai ranging from 4inch pots to 20 inch pots. Lots of 6-8-10 inch starters.
In the last 3 years I have seeded 2500 figs/maples and oaks. Some are starting to become nice little styled bonsai. Look forward to meeting you soon.

Evening all, I have been enjoying posting some pictures of the bonsai at the nursery. I have a few to show you if interested, check the wire damage on the elm great trunk etc but I may need to start again with some of the branching. A few little pictures also of potted trees and a privet forest started in the 80's. Any ideas for restyling the forest would be appreciated. Take care Mase

G'day Mase,

I would love to see a dominant tree in your group setting, or maybe two or more stronger trees toward the front. This will also help to give your group an apex. Personally I treat the foliage of a group as if it were one tree, creating a foliage canopy that is somewhat triangular in shape as a whole.

Sometimes when you have looked at something for so long it does not seem obvious. A great suggestion I look to forward to manipulating the setting in a more triangular effect. I do have a key tree that would make a great apex. Thanks. Also I am in Canberra Tuesday-Thursday is there any chance of catching up for a cuppa or just a browse around your bonsai. I will have in tow a little family so I will make it short and hopefully painless. I will be on the mobile 0415609509 and should be in canberra 10am tuesday until thursday evening.

Gidday all, i visited Canberra last week and popped into the National Exhibit. WOW,WOW. it was a pleasure to meet the gentlemen working on the day and I can highly recommend a visit to any Bonsai enthusiast. The collection as you can imagine is kept in the most pristine order. I even saw a pair of twezzers remove a 1/4 cm tall weed. The group planting of taxodium was my absolute favourite. Grant told me the variety of taxodium was not the usual variety my apologies I can not remember the exact variety except mexico rings a bell. I also collected a few acorns from the Canberra district and I have attached a photo of some platted canberra acorns I seeded in 2006.
Also a couple of pictures of some platted maples in the early stages and a couple of nice stock trees.

Gidday all, I am just putting on two pictures of a literati before and after. I am stuck for ideas especially with pot selection. Any ideas and comments would be appreciated. This pot was used for the bonsai when it had four heavy lower branches. Any ideas. Please excuse the poor before picture.

Taxodium mucronatum, also known as Montezuma Cypress a species of Taxodium native to much of Mexico?
