Stock Plants?

G'day all,

Relatively new to bonsai here and still looking around for a few stock plants. I'm sure this topic has been covered before but can anyone recommend places in Adelaide to source new stock plants?

Hi There,

Im also from adelaide and find it very difficult to find stock. Theres a place in Yatala vale called 'bonsai tree gardens'? i believe. Im yet to visit but they apparently have some mature stock for sale. If anyone else has information on this place id love to hear it.

Thanks guys, I've heard about the place in Yatala Vale but haven't had the chance to visit yet. I might have to make a trip there next week and check it out.

Has anyone been to Bonsai City at Modbury? That was also on my list to investigate.

Bonsai city at Modbury is in a guys back yard, worth dropping by if your in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip as he doesn't sell stock trees as such. But definitely make a trip up to Yatala Vale, but phone first to make sure they are open as I have been there b4 during their "opening hours" and they were closed. Cathy recommends to call her first to make sure. They have a great selection of trees in training, HEAPS of pots and good prices, and quite a few stock trees.

If you interested in Natives, go and check out Belair National Park's state nursery. There is a nursery at Blackwood across from Coles which has a good range of maples suitable for trunk chopping, and there is also a few nurseries in the hills worth visiting like Cleveland nursery at Stirling (quite pricey though), and others I haven't been too, but if you Google nurseries and Adelaide hills you will find plenty like manor nursery at oakbank. It depends on what your after I guess, but Ive found Maples are really only available from the hills. My only advice is ring them first to A) make sure they are open, and B) have the kind of things you are looking for.
If you go out to Yatala Vale, let me know how you go, I'm due for a trip out there, but its about a hour from my place, but always worth it
