Casuarina in the wild - Nebari and Uro

Post by Steven »

G'day native fans,

Following are some pictures of Casuarina cunninghamiana growing in their native habitat on my rural property. The tree's are estimated to be between 100 and 150 years old and some of the larger ones are over 2.5 meters diameter at the base.
This installment of pictures is focusing on the trunks, nebari and some natural uro caused by flood waters etc.
I encourage you to study the pictures and discuss elements that we could copy in our bonsai.

Further posts will focus on branch structure and whole trees.

Regards,
Steven

Gday Steven!

I've only had a chance to browse the thumbnails, but WOW!!! I can't wait until it's too dark/cold for me to be swinging a hammer so I can spend some quality time with your pics...

Thanks.

Fly.

Steven, I now understand your preference to them. My personal favorite is 36 But they don't grow like that!!!.
When we get back from our sojourn I will have to start work on mine. I do like these pictures and yes they should be used as a canvas for our Bonsai.
As Fly said wow :D Pup

17 and 34 is just woooah
This is excellent! I'm really happy to see the potentials of Casuarina (and that I have something to base some of my own Casuarinas on!) Inspiring stuff.

Can't believe I missed this post and can't believe there isn't more discussion on them. They are amazing trees. Interesting having such intriguing trunks. Think I might need to damage my trunks s bit and see what happens. Thanks for sharing.

A question out of inexperience, then"Uro" is the holes in the bark that exposes the hard wood!?! As opposed to a currency in Europe...
