RYAN NEIL IS COMING
hi there everyone,

Re: RYAN NEIL IS COMING
cheers for that,
sorry never saw the post scott,
from the convo he may extend with enough interest. i dont think there would be any hassle with him filling, there is a time issue tho.
if he extends canberra and sydney he will not be able to come to Melb, i think the chance to have him in Melbourne would be a good opportunity for those who can not attend interstate. What do you think?
cheers.

Re: RYAN NEIL IS COMING
Im pretty sure AABC don't let the internationals do gigs enternal to the convention.
So, the convention is the only way anyone will get to see him.

If that is the case, that sure sucks!... is that in the spirit of bonsai?Scott Roxburgh wrote:Im pretty sure AABC don't let the internationals do gigs enternal to the convention.

Re: RYAN NEIL IS COMING
May not be in the spirit of Bonsai but can you imagine if you paid someone to come and speak to your group and then another group jumped in and got them for next to nothing. As the saying goes, "Can't mix business with pleasure, unless you're a street walker".
So the Redwood turns to the Bonsai and says "Lend me a Tenner"......

Yeah, I get it
Certainly not having a go at the AABC
I guess I am just a little disappointed as I don't think I will be able to travel interstate.
Cheers, Dario.

Yeah, I was in the same situ this year and missed Boon in Vic.
So the Redwood turns to the Bonsai and says "Lend me a Tenner"......

Re: RYAN NEIL IS COMING
The AABC has done a wonderful job in bringing these artists to us every year.
People do not appreciate the costs.
I do not know what they are for Ryan or what they were for Boon but lets have a guess
Airfares $2600
Accommodation $200 per day (for 6 Nights) $1200
Artist fees (no idea) say $800 per day for four days= $3200
Venue Hire maybe $2000 per day= $8000
I am sure I have forgotten something obvious but that makes $15000 for four days.
$3,750.00 per day
Workshops cost to participants is $80, so 16 in one day will recover $1280
a loss of $2470.00 for the day!
These events are often run at a loss,
Give them your support if you wish to see international talent.

Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Re: RYAN NEIL IS COMING
I think that is pretty close to the mark there. Maybe the cost of entry will help cover that, but not by much.
I'm in Canberra and I probably wont be able to see him due to not knowing what is happening with work.
But I did just do a search on airfares and I can get a return ticket for about $1500.
With the dollar the way its going it might be worth just flying over there and doing a workshop.

Re: RYAN NEIL IS COMING
Very strange that no-one remembers that Marc Noelanders is coming to Sydney in August!! One of the world's greatest bonsai masters, and the chance of seeing his demos and participating in one of his workshops comes at a very reasonable price.
I certainly am not letting this chance go by. See at
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=11394
Those of you who are not very familiar with the European bonsai scene might like to browse for "Noelanders Trophy".
