No layers were done, I ended up just going the chop on the tall straight trunk, removing approx 1/3 of the upper bulk. I will probably need to remove one or 2 of the remaining branches so theres hope of a layer... maybe.

The tree was planted in the ground last winter & has settled into its growing spot nicely. With the above chop made a whole different story unfolded & it's done a 120deg flip back over to the left. Dieback from the original collection chops appears to have found its limit so I can start looking at carving solutions and other fun. The tree already has an extensive hollow from a large old chop so a bit more wont be out of place. No stark jin & shari for maples :shake: dark "dank" hollows are the go :tu:

I have a Japanese maple much like this, honestly you have inspired me to actually start working on it haha.

There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.
