Rockies
One of my favorite accent plants, Dendrobium kingianum (pink rock orchid).
Matt
It lives at the foot of a black mulberry with a Dendrobium speciosum that is also full of bud.
Hope you enjoy as much as I do.Matt

Re: Rockies
They are a joy at this time of year. On the NSW Tablelands the winter frosts would be too much for them so I have a couple of dendrobiums? (variety not known) living happily in my bathroom (large window for light and they love the humid atmosphere). They share a glass shelved book case with a couple of other orchids, including a young Sydney Rock Orchid and a maiden hair fern. They are a mass of flowers at the moment and, when the sun warms the room the perfume is a delight. I love the color of your D kingianum and must keep an eye out for one to add to the bathroom collection.
Thanks for the pictures,
Jan

Re: Rockies
Jan, what a beautiful display I think your 'bathroom orchid' is a select form of kingianum. I had never noticed the scent before, might have to bring mine in for a few days

Re: Rockies
They are not Rockies but while there is an Orchid related thread......
They are Pterostylis pedunculata.
They have been in the same pot for close to 7 years now and looking better than ever

Re: Rockies
Jan, Matt is right. I think they could be Dendrobium kingianum var silkockii to be more precise.
Damian, that is not P. pedunculata. Looks more like P. curta to me.

Re: Rockies
If that is the case then I have been living a lie for the last 7 years
I really don't like it when the nursery gets the tag wrong.
In their defence though, this is the first time the flowers have been held so high above the ground, las year they were 2/3 the height shown.

Re: Rockies
There are HEAPS of Pterostylis species that look quite similar. I don't blame them either (though it is really convenient when they mislabel things).
This thread contains a photo of my P. pedunculata.

Re: Rockies
Its the turn of the speciosum to be in full bloom, before taking photo's I thought I better do something about fixing it into the pot somehow. A bit of string & a lot of sandstone later & its stable as. By the time the string rots away the roots should have a good hold on the stone & pot
The flowers reflect so much light the camera has a hard time focusing on them.
While the sprays are large & impressive the beauty of the individual bloom can be a little lost.
