I rescued this fig from a friend.. it may or may not make it. it's been repotted into a colander, but it had minimal root system left alive. I'd like to know what sort etc please. I know nothing about figs...

From your photo's looks as if its

Ficus retusa -Indian Laurel Fig

Your tree should be fine in well drained, deep soil. These trees will grow from cuttings, so very hardy. Be sure to maintian moisture level's- this includes humidity. 13% of moisture retention is from the foliage alone. So helful if you have this portion on your side.

This tree are Good subject's for both Penjing and Bonsai or just potted tree's for your enjoyment. But, in sydney they do tend to have a slight leaf fall in Winter as they prefer humid climate's

Good luck with it,

And Have a Merry Christmas

Thank you Philippe, I have it in a warm, humid enviroment atm, and will see how it goes. It was/is in pretty poor condition. She had been watering it, but failed to notice that the water was not being taken up. the root ball was so dry that I soaked it for over an hr, and still didn't have water penitrate when I repotted it into a looser mix.

will just have to wait and see if it survives.
