Hey folks,
I have a Boug Smartypants growing in the garden that needs to be dug out for a retaining wall.
Is this type of Boug OK for bonsai? The leaves seem to grow in small tufts on the ends of branches if left to grow on their own. Will they produce ramified branches if pruned correctly?
Cheers
Mal.

Re: Bougy Smartypants for bonsai?
I have numerous Bougy that have been collected and some look quite different. I have no idea what varieties they are
They are fast growers and shoot back from bare wood so reckon that any of them will be good.
Nothing to lose, but plenty to gain by trying.

You're right Ken, nothing to lose. It's going to be dug out anyway so I might as well give it a go.

Re: Bougy Smartypants for bonsai?
Howdy,
Smartypants makes good bonsai. All the cuttings will grow.
It may "sulk" for a month or two, keep up the water.
Sometimes they will have lots of growth but very little root.
Be sure to have some leaves on the branches you want to keep.
If you spend some time and cut all the thorns off, they do not grow back.
Happy bonsai,
Bruce.
