Collected Azalea 2- Styling Advice

Hi All,

here is an Azalea that was collected from a development site in Sydney a year ago.

I think it is ready for styling.

Can anyone help me with ideas or direction? any verts, comments or ideas are much appreciated.

Hi,
As a general rule of thumb, Azalea's are cut back, trimmed etc just after flowering. That is also a good time to re-pot as well. Potential bonsai that are dug require a reasonable time to recover and regain their strength and that period is uaually 2 years.
So I would recommend to wait at least until they are finished flowering in spring before you commence any work. Work done then will also have the probability of new growth on old wood where cuts are made, another bonus for you.
You have been very fortunate to obtain such good stock and it would be a pity to put it at risk by working on them out of season. Just my thoughts.

Same as the other 2, pick the trunkline you wish and then as watto says, work them after spring.
You can clean out unwanted branching now if you want.
