Pup, it says this on the 360,,This is 4 separate cuttings stuck on a Eucalypt stump. It was put together at a BSA demo in 2000.

Sometime things come round and bite your ass. This has been one of those occasions. I am always saying about reading first.

I did not I just looked at the picture, tried to determine from that.

It appears to have been a long wait for him to come in and answer the questions hahahaha although it doesn't surprise me as he would be too busy playing with his trees rather than philophising over them.

I can't believe I did not see the 360 till now !! Great technology/photo .
The eucalypt timber has been treated with lime sulphur .
The Shimpaku used were 4 air-layers so had many fine feeder roots ,easy to pack in tight around the wood and were secured by tech screws into the wood. The work was done in quick time by me as a demonstration at a Bonsai Society of Australia meeting in 2000 .

Sorry Pup and others - this one snuck up on me and I will now try to answer some of the asks.
It was created in a demo for the Bonsai Society of Australia at one of their monthly club nights. As a base I used a piece of Mallee not pre treated except to fix with epoxy, three offcuts of 6mm aluminium wire into the base to be an adjustable stable element.
Four long Shimpaku trees grown by aerial layer (for the compact root mass) were used and secured to the deadwood with chipboard screws.
The placement of the live trunks with some, their red bark in full view is entirely deliberate in an attempt to integrate the live and Gin elements in harmony.
To help preserve the wood I have used Earl's wood hardener and used some artist's acrylic paints instead of lime sulphur.
I think its about twelve years since I made it but BSA might be able to clarify on this.

Thanks to Elmar I see in an old post it is now about fifteen years since I made this tree Tempus fugit!! Looks as if I did use some lime sulphur but the Earl's and paint is the current fix.
