Grow your plants harder, IE in the ground, experiment w growth media & fertilizer.

Re modification of a exisitng pottery design. Its called breaking the rules gracefully.
Standing on the shoulders of giants. ect Its a base principle of design.

Close minded individuals is why the standard of Bonsai in Aus is stagnating.
The other reason is that its a hobby populated by morons.

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, since you're far from being 60 you must be green .... behind the ears, otherwise you wouldn't be as disrespectful and insulting as you're! A bid of friendliness will get you a long way in my humble opinion ... and I'm one of the way over 60s old farts!

You don't know the achievements of the two people you having a go at this time - I do .... and you've to be very good to get to their level ... (maybe you are?)!

As with everything ... it's in the eyes of the beholder, who are we to judge what's nice or good - some like Monet and others like Picasso, both are great artist in their own right! One other great artist once said ... "don't make your tree look like bonsai, make your bonsai look like a tree" - and he knew what he was talking about!

If you continue to give your views and or opinions in ANY tread/post do it with respect!!! This is also one of the major rules if you go to ANY Exhibitions worldwide - show respect to the work of others!

I'm out of it - I've unsubscribed from this post!

Opinions are all very fine, but mindless insults are just a four-year-old throwing a tantrum. If you're calling Australian bonsai growers morons, you can't expect respect from the rest of us. There are some fine Australian potters, and some amateurs - if you're lumping them all together to abuse, expect the contempt to be returned.

Concerning commissioning pots, almost every potter will have stories about bending over backwards to please the client, only to have the pot rejected in the end. Getting exactly the right pot for a tree can be matter of millimetres, and just the right shade of colour - unless you see the pot, you can't be sure. It's very easy for everyone to end up unhappy.

Maybe Charlie can show us all how it's done. Instead of sneering.

Pat , I was just interested that CG has not posted any pictures on this forum , while the rest of us have . The comment about pots was offered with tongue firmly in cheek .

Although i think CG may have been a little rude and i dont agree with all of it i do think its the slap in the face many of us need including me to be able to improve. From time to time we all get complacent. Put it this way. He got us all talking about it

I have spent time with Ryan Neil and Michael Hagadorn. What I find is that folks who are more secure in their abilities and track record feel less of a need to denigrate others. Both Ryan and Michael saw some pretty poor examples of bonsai in their visits, but neither of them found it necessary to result to belittling other folks. I guess that's the difference between people who have class and those that don't. As for Aussie potters, I have seen some great pots I'd love to buy were it not for the logistics involved. How to win friends and influence people.

Well said Andrew. It is not always if you have it flaunt it. Sit back and let them, destroy themselves.

Cheers Pup.

Ps I have some very nice pots from Australian Potters, from Melbourne too.

Thanks
