Not a lot of growth on this little one but the leaves are staying nice and small. Needs better shape to the foliage though.

Without defoliation, the foliage continues to be very small on this one. Ash visited my garden a couple of weeks ago and asked for a cutting or 2 so I'm leaving those shoots at the top for now.

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
G'day,
Last month I took the cuttings off the top of this one for Ash (Hi Ash )
I've rewired some of the branches and now just need the apex to fill back in a bit.

Love the pot, Steven. The tree and pot go so well together. Is it an original hand made one?

G'day,
This one continues to grow and the foliage size is maintained about the size of a fingernail.
The cuttings I took have taken
Regards,
Steven

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
G'day,
Not a lot to update about this one. I took some cuttings from the top of the tree last year which have all taken and I'll be sending to Ash.
I'm going to repot this one into a bigger pot and let it regain some vigor over the coming growing season. I think I'd like to increase the height and create an extra pad/layer of foliage.
Current height: 145mm
Pot: Erin
Accent: Janet Selby

Very nice effort Steven.
The tree, pot and little chap resting in the shade are all full of character.

After roughly 20 years of growing bonsai, I reckon I might just be starting to get the hang of it...

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
My only surviving entry from the 1st Shohin comp in 2011. This one is 170mm tall. I cut it back to the primary branches late last year and potted it into a larger pot to let it get some vigour back. The tiny size of the leaves still amazes me with this PJ!
I'll be working on filling in the foliage something like the shape in my concept picture below.

Not much growth to show. Still wanting the canopy to fill in like the last update.

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
With the hot weather we've had lately, this one has been powering on. I gave it a trim last night and removed a couple of unnecessary branches.

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
This one suffered a bit in those crazy hot +45° days and some of the leaves on the top right cooked which is why it is looking a bit pointy now.

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
Time for some really fine wiring. I also need to get the apex rounder.

Re: [Steven] Ficus rubiginosa 2
Hi,
Following is my final update for this Port Jackson fig.
The growths on the trunk are increasing in size and really giving the tree some character.
The surface roots aren't particularly good so I'll work on fixing that now.
All branches could do with wiring again and perhaps rounding off the apex a bit too.
Final height is 160mm.
Regards,
Steven
