straight trunk juniper

Post by treeman »

An attempt at a ''formal'' unpright. Juniper Blue Alps.
This tree has waited 20 odd years to get into a bonsai pot. It was in the ground for a few years then in a pot for few more then back in the ground for a few more... :palm:
This is the first wiring. For the last couple of years it was just ''hedged'' to keep it under control. Branches will no doubt be removed in the future.

An inspiration...

 Mr Treeman,
Thanks for sharing these pics.
I admire your tree a lot & your patience & hedging has paid off.
Your inspiration pic is definitely a vision worth the chase.
Look forward to seeing your decisions on branching treatment in future updates (eg complete removals or selective jin stubs)

Hi Treeman , very nice Juni , I have a soft spot for formal upright but they are tricky to get right , this has inspired me to stick with mine , mine is only 10 years in training in and out of the ground but it's making progress in the right direction .

Cheers . Alpine

Love this tree. Reminds me a lot of this fantastic spruce by Walter Pall. Interesting pot/planting idea which could work well with your tree in the future...

This thread eluded me Mike but i love this tree and your future plans for it. It will be a good "Classic" tree.

Looking good Mike, Fantastic roots on it , its getting to look like a old tree in the European alps . Have you thought about possibly adding a shari to the trunk at some point to illustrate that age and hard exsistance .....

Definitely, maybe next winter. Thinking I will add some slowly here and there but also I'm like everyone else in that I want everything now! It's a bad trait which has lead to the death of many trees. :palm:

Also, I'm going to try to steer clear of the ''pads'' thing. Every time I hear that word it makes my cringe. :D

Another tree that I will greatly enjoy watching the transformation over the years.
They're slow to grow aren't they Mike? I'm guessing its going to be a long road?

I style Bonsai naturally, just as they would appear in the wild.

Thanks Rory. Not as slow you might expect. It can handle 2 prunings per year as long as it's pushed along with fert.
