Re: Am I a Potaholic?
I have added another to the collection, its a Tokoname by Housyu (wife of Yamafusa) and it is about 450 mm by 330 mm.
AS I have already a Yamafusa on the shelf, I now have the family collection?

If you look to the bottom right of the pot you can see a "chop"

Re: Am I a Potaholic?
All Japanese except the mames. Some of them Tokoname.
Some I picked up a while ago and some recently.
Hopefully trees will be going in some of these at some point haha
I love good quality pots, they can be so beautiful.

Watto, I love Housyu pot. Simple, elegant.
Pat K's 'Koyo pot from Tokoname' is a stand out too.
I like them all actually but those two stand out (for me) on this page.

Re: Am I a Potaholic?
MJL I think you mean benbonsai’s ”Koyo pot from Tokoname”
A stand out for me is Dervish’s Gekkou Ito, the artwork is stunning. That couldn’t have come cheap. There is a rectangular one on eBay running around $1300 it’s amazing.

Yeah, apologies Benbonsai - your pot indeed.
That eBay ad worries me ... it says '...by the infamous Ito Gekkou' ... "Infamous" - with that description, I would not be rushing to the pot! Perhaps they meant to say famous.
I am with Alan ... on catching fisherman on lures.
In truth, unless I absolutely trust someone _ I am happier paying more for a pot from some of our talented local potters rather than me trying to speculate on pots of great value. Good luck to those that have the knowledge ... this little duck is a long way from that.

Re: Am I a Potaholic?
Agreed, definitely excited to see what the future holds and even though his work is evolving they are still distinctly Thor pots. Plus I think there will always be the skulls which are a love or hate thing.melbrackstone wrote: @Starfox I love how Thor's work is evolving, good on you!
I have a pretty reasonable spread of his work so it's nice to see the early work sitting next to his latest.
This first one is a Raku pot from his early days, very tough to photograph that glaze.
And of course... skull themed.

Re: Am I a Potaholic?
Ha ha, he's a marvel, love it! I only have a couple of his, since I find they're a little too "masculine" for the majority of my plants. I keep reminding myself to get one of his skull accent pots! Hope he keeps making them, now that he's into his "Japanese" phase!Plus I think there will always be the skulls which are a love or hate thing

Re: Am I a Potaholic?
"In 2017 Thor was invited to work for a month with Shuuhou (Hidemi Kataoka) in Tokoname, Japan, amongst other great Japanese bonsai potters. There he was given the honorary potter name of 熊谷 'Valley Bear', the stamp of which will confirm 'second generation' Holvila works."melbrackstone wrote:Ha ha, he's a marvel, love it! Keep an eye out for the Valley Bear hanko if your chasing a new scull!

Re: Am I a Potaholic?
Yes I enjoyed reading his posts from there, what an honour to be chosen to work with Hidemi Kataoka! His newer pots are still rectangles, but the glazing is completely different to his usual style, it's almost as though he's painting landscapes on them.lus I think there will always be the skulls which are a love or hate thing
