Australian Natives Breaking Through The Bonsai Ceiling 2019

Hi everyone,
Some of you may be aware that next years AABC Convention held in Melbourne will focus entirely on Australian Natives, all demonstrations, talks, sales and exhibition will be entirely Aussie Natives.
Our headline demonstrator is Ryan Neil, he will be holding Masterclass workshops on Friday and Monday and with only a limited number of participants and no observers these spots are filling up fast, to date we have 4 spots left so get in quick!
Hugh Grant, our local talented artist will also be holding workshops on the Monday and these are also filling up fast.

I have been developing many Australian Natives in recent years, the main thing I have learned is that they develop into decent trees much faster than exotic species. My workshop with Ryan Neil has been booked and I am looking forward to a huge weekend in May.
Be aware that it is not a full year between AABC Conventions. Bonsai Exposed 2018 was a winter event in July, so the 2019 event is approaching fast. I understand that workshop places with Ryan (Australian Natives only) will run out fast with more than half gone already after only four weeks.

10 of the 16 spots with Hugh Grant have been filled already with spots still available on the Monday afternoon. I have seen Hugh operate in workshops recently and enjoyed the fresh approach.
Hugh has a background in sculpture which appears to influence his design, I enjoy the way he is prepared to push the limits of balance (as seen on this forum in his posts.) I know he has learned a lot in the time he spent with Ryan in the USA and look forward to seeing his work at the convention.

Hugh was just up here in Qld, and was very impressive! We're hoping he'll make regular visits to Qld in future. Book in with him if you can!

One of my favourite trees, melaleuca raphiophylla. I believe this tree was origially collected and styled by Pup. Sold into Victoria about 8 or 10 years ago. This photo was taken at the 2015 Native Symposium. I would love to see how it looks after 4 more years of development. Hopefully it will make the list for the convention.

I wonder whose idea that was? Seems like a lot of money to bring him all this way and then not have him accessible to the majority of people at the conference. When I saw Ryan Neil I thought it would be worth going to, but if I’m not going to see a demonstration by him what’s the point?

you can see demonstrations by him during the convention, as a delegate. It's only the private workshops before and after that will have no observers, is my understanding.

Howdy Folks,

I am interested in attending and will soon be registering, I am just trying to decide which day or days (essentially ... what the wallet can take).

Anyway, I think it goes like this and I have taken some screenshots to confirm my understanding. All conference delegates who attend on Saturday and/or Sunday, we will see numerous presentations and demonstrations by Ryan Neil. See below. While I am very interested in seeing Ryan and I also eager to see Hugh, Roger and Quentin - so it will be a balance in which parallel sessions to attend.

The closed full-day private workshops are on the preceding Friday and following Monday. This text below confirms this too.

My reading is that Ryan and all presenters will be available for conference attendees and therefore the majority of folk, it is the private workshops that are closed.

I am looking forward to it.

That's the way I expect it to go, Mark. The private workshops on Friday and Monday are for those people who've paid for exclusive help, one on one, (actually, one on eight,) whereas the Saturday and Sunday demonstrations will be open to all delegates. Ryan will be featuring a lot, during those Saturday and Sunday times, along with Hugh. If you'd like to meet them, maybe go to the Saturday night dinner?
