[Natural] Callistemon citrinus Reeves Pink - Beano

Post by Beano »

This is my first entry for the competition!

Cost: $15
Source: State Flora SA

Couldn’t find a little John so I got this as the pink flower colour was pleasing to me.

Right! I root pruned this when I got it and it’s done nothing until today. Its terminal bud has turned green and is about to extend, so it’s a confirmed entry. Just need my other contenders to do something... anything...

This one is doing well. The base is a bit fatter and it’s extending new growth on the two remaining branches I left behind.

October update: I’ve done nothing. It’s definitely a little fatter and currently has 3 flower buds, one will open tomorrow or the next day I think.

April update: I haven’t achieved much here... will have to work harder on weeding so it grows faster.

I was struggling to see the plant in the first shot! :) at least it’s still alive and healthy.

Yes the fact you couldn’t see the tree was motivation to get my update in!

Final update:
Repot 30th November 2021

My experience with this tree is that it is hard to kill. I haven’t paid it much attention which you can see from the final result. I was hoping it would fatten up faster but it didn’t grow much after it’s initial ground planting when I first got it. New growth comes in several phases throughout the growing season - it’ll stagnate for months then start to push a bunch of new leaves, then harden those off and stop. Trimming the tips didn’t seem to encourage more new growth for me.
