Re: [thoglette] F. Benjamina 2016-2017
Back in the saddle. Following advice from Tony Bebb I've been trying to fatten up the trunk a bit more (the sacrifice branch to the right is about 50cm long)

August update as required by the rules. Still getting fatter. Most of the visible foliage is sacrifice material.

Fatter, chopped some branches as they were getting too fat. Two steps forward, one back!

Re: [thoglette] F. Benjamina
Nice progression!
Funny thing is, FB is amongst my least favourite trees but the one I got (was a pressy for daughter who wasn't really interested!) has gotten pot bound twice now and has gotten soooo fat (trunk) it is now peaking my curiosity, all I did was use a larger pot...
Keep it up and thank you.

Whoops
I was going to be away for a while during the summer so I tucked it away where it would get watered. That worked, but not enough sun so it went all lanky on me.
The only option was to cut it all off again and I'm back to square one.

Bad phto to stay in the comp
Life's been a little crazy so this is a post-or-lose post. I potted it back out into an even bigger pot (ok, seed tray) to get some thickness happening.

Re: Bad phto to stay in the comp
Been on the road for 13 of the last 15 weeks so, as a bonsai, the tree is in a worse condition than last year. However the trunk is getting fatter.thoglette wrote:Life's been a little crazy so this is a post-or-lose post.

Sorry Thoglette, I've had to disqualify this and your other entry as you did not post 2 final photographs.

Re: [thoglette] F. Benjamina
Well the Comp may be well over but the tree lives on (for now). New pot from Margie Fenn, perhaps a little too late in the year but I didn’t want to wait all year.
A bit scraggly but I’m just going to leave the foliage on while the roots recover.
