Re: [Sno] Leptospermum
A bit of a catch-up . This tree has grown really well over the years and had filled in nicely . I was walking a fine line with the amount of growth I let grow up top compared to its container . Which was fine until I went away for a week .
This was a photo of it recently after I had repotted at the end of October .
I remember thinking that I needed to sort all the upward growth but I didn’t have time until I came back .
Unfortunately it was fairly crispy when I came home . Or maybe that was a good thing .
I chopped off all the obviously dead bits and put it into a shallow saucer in a sheltered spot . It had some leaves left on it but not many .
Then we wait . About 6 weeks . It’s started shooting .
It’s a good time to see the structure after its defoliation . I am not sure whether to change its style or not , wind shaped is a hard style to maintain.

Wow, that is a harsh trim. But a good comeback from the tea tree.
I do like the tree/pot combination.

WOW Sno,
I went back to the start, this tree has come a long way since you started it, in a very good way. Great vision.
I love the Uros, gives it great character.
I'm glad it's still transpiring.

Re: [Sno] Leptospermum
Hi Watto . This variety of Leptospermum ( L juniperinum ) is one of the best for our climate . It has smaller leaves than most Leptospermum , handles the frost (it’s local to the ACT ) but best of all it backbuds on bare wood , without over backbudding .
The tree ,pot combination is one of my favourites , there in lies my dilemma . If I move this tree into another pot I doubt I would ever grow another tree that suits this pot so well .

Re: [Sno] Leptospermum
Thanks Kevin . I had to go back to see how old it was , how time gets away on you . I think the uros started by over zealous cutting of branches . I know I didn’t plan them , just shows you can be to careful . Now a days every branch I want to cut off I turn into Jin for a while first before I decide if I totally remove it . May have to get a bit rougher .

Re: [Sno] Leptospermum
Hi Ken . After seeing it without leaves I like the other side too . A cut here and there and it could become a completely different tree .

Re: [Sno] Leptospermum
Nice work on the structure of the tree, and a good save. I'm curious now whether you open up the texture of the tree, so you can see more of the form without actually nearly killing it... L. obovatum is also local, and grows well. I'll have to chase up some L. juniperinum.

Re: [Sno] Leptospermum
Too many trees . I barely have enough time to water , most of my trees turn into bushes over a year . If I take it to a show again I would open it up .
