Post by delisea »

I saw one pic on socials from the Bonsai Open, a nice looking pine. Are there more photos anywhere?

Cheers,

Here are some pictures I took while I was at the event. I didn't take pictures of every tree as I was too busy catching up with everyone :D I didn't even take a picture of the winning group trees  it was a great event and the quality was better then the previous year.

The stand out tree for me was hughs kunzea.

Awesome. These photos came out really well, thanks for sharing.

It was a little dark in there in some areas, I had my phone light out as I took a closer look at some of the trunks and branching particularly in that final row with that massive B. Seratta in it so some of these photos showed up some things I'd missed.

Probably an eye-roller but Hugh's Kunzea was incredible to see in person; I'd previously on seen it in photos and somehow didn't realize how large it was. A lot of the character unfortunately seems to get lost to the back of the tree and isn't as visible when viewed from the 'front', so it was really cool being able to get up close to not only that tree, but the whole range of them.

I took almost no photos (kicking myself) but did get 2 poor shots of the Kunzea from slightly differing angles (I would refrain from posting these if I thought they showed up 'faults' or less-flattering aspects of a tree, but I think they really add to this tree - I hope that's generally welcomed :fc: ).

I also really appreciated some of the B. Serrata there (I believe one was yours?) which was an incredible tree.
They're something I always thought of as quite ugly growing up but they've really reeled me in since seeing them occasionally so well done in the shrunken form.

The 'Honey Myrtle' was also one very cool in person. Although there we're a bunch of really great trees; so much so that I'm going to refrain from mentioning any others with the knowledge that I'll feel like endlessly adding as them re-enter my memory.

Does any one have any idea which tree/display ended up winning the ‘peoples choice’?

From the pictures I've seen shared around, that composition I found to be quite captivating. I'm not surprised it won people's choice. I really like the tree leaning off to the left with the strong drop branch.
