This Mel was from the nursery section at bunnings. I bought it in 2022. It was already growing as a clump on it's own, which is what interested me.
I repotted it into my mix and worked the roots when I got it. I let grow out and cut back a couple of times to start taper, and get some movement going.
Recently I repotted again into a large pot to really start getting some growth and thickening happening. I'll cut back hard again later.
May 2022. First root work.
Recent second root work.

Nice!
I have a couple of mels that I grew from seed and am trying to develop into clumps, it's a great style to showcase them in a relatively natural way IMO. This is going to be a good one I think.

Re: Melaleuca Preissiana - Clump Style
Eager to follow this thread, preissiana has to be my favourite melaleuca species. I managed to get a clump style myself from Zanthorrea nursery and it survived the first repotting.
I’m curious, I read elsewhere on the forums that preissiana are one of the harder, more sensitive mels to bonsai but, it didn’t say why. Curious if you have any knowledge or tips when dealing with this species?
Looking forward to updates!

Re: Melaleuca Preissiana - Clump Style
I have another small one I’m working on as well, but I don’t have a lot of experience with the species yet. I have found with a lot of wiring I had some branch dieback, could be for other reasons not too sure. I do think there is some truth to them being a bit trickier than other Mel’s like cuticularis and raphiophylla, but to what extent I don’t know yet. Let the learning continue….Mickeyjaytee wrote: ↑June 5th, 2024, 10:17 am Eager to follow this thread, preissiana has to be my favourite melaleuca species.
