Made a cut on this tree today. It's been in the pipeline due to the fact it is a definitive bar branch and pretty fundamental design flaw ... but today was the day. I'll look to grow a bit of something using the back branch to give a bit more foliage behind the trunk on the right hand side to balance it a bit more. Always nice to rectify issues and move the design forward...
It'll get a new, more appropriate pot with any luck this year to help continue that progression.

Nice work. With that branch removed, you can appreciate looking back and seeing how it extended beyond the silhouette of the tree and took away from the rest.

Thanks mate, that’s nice of you to say… I try and mix it up with my tree styling but creating tension in the design of a tree can help to make it interesting which is the ultimate goal. I think you’re right that dropping/stretching branches are good for that.

... and the day for a repot arrived.
This is a pot I picked up last year from TimS. He had it for sale (it's a Terahata Mazan pot) and as part of his description he mentioned it came from Kobayashi's nursery in Japan.
This struck a chord with me as this tree was initially styled in a workshop with Kobayashi-san back in 2019... and the ceramic it was in was never really the "forever" pot for this tree. Thanks for parting with it Tim and helping me lift this tree up a notch!!
Anyway, I had a bit of a play with the angle/front, which in real life I like a lot more than I do in the photos. It will stay like this for a couple of years in any case, I like the size/proportions of this pot a lot better than the old one. The chop stamp on the front face is a nice touch!

Progression pics after a decandling this morning.
All is going well for this tree right now.
It seems totally at home in the new pot and I think it looks the goods in it, so it's win/win as far as I am concerned!

I think that is the pot that tree was meant for mate! Looks great in it; solid enough to support the visual weight of the tree, but not in any way distracting from the tree itself. My eye goes straight to the tree which is the way it should be

Autumn update after some work today.
Will be turning it in the pot a couple of degrees next time I get it out.
