This morning seemed like a good time to dig a few Banksias from a garden bed in the garden.
These grew as root suckers after I dug a self sown Banksia out of this same bed a few years ago.
I was not previously aware that banksias could grow from roots but I do remember seeing new shoots coming from roots after fires had killed the parent trees.
This could well be the Magic Pudding Banksia - cut and come again.
In preparation for this transplant I pruned all the trees hard a few weeks ago. Now they've responded with lots of new shoots it is time to dig. Today should be a good day as we have a few day's rain forecast.
Because these are all suckers growing from previous surface roots the nebari tends to be one sided. Not sure if that will change now they are potted up or whether I can use one of the root techniques to encourage more roots on the bare sides of these trunks.
All 3 have been potted up into 30 cm orchid pots. I've put them under the benches in the nursery for now.
