Yep, I've been inspired by Antt's black sheoak propagations and have been looking out for this species. My luck came today when I visited the local nursery. The owner showed me a low-selling corner, where I found these Allocasuarina Littoralis. I was absolutely delighted when I see bases as large as 3cm to 5cm for seedling stocks and their prices rang from $9.94 to $12.95. I didn't bring enough cash and don't have enough space in my 4x4 to take many but managed to grab several of them. A couple of other guys also grabbed quite a few when they saw me do this. Not sure if they will train them for bosai through
The taper is no doubt very good but they are also very tall and have no lower branches. As I have NO experience with this species, I may need Antt's and other's advice with chopping.

Re: Black SheOak - The wannabes
gday DK
nice find mate, great prices too! i would make sure they are healthy and strong first, even if this takes a month or two of good feeding i would do that first, then i would consider cutting back to about 6 inches or so abover where you would like the new leader to be. then when the leader shoots where you want it, you can cut back to that
these will come up real nice DK

Re: Black SheOak - The wannabes
Hi Kvan64, you sure got a bargain with these! Great taper and bark!
Did you end up trunk chopping them?...if so, how are they going?
Would appreciate an update if that is ok as I am about to start collecting a couple soon and I also recently planted around 50 collected seeds that have just sprouted...only took around 2 weeks! I love these trees!
Thanks, Dario.
