Unknown Monster

I saw this monster tree on the side of the road, and quickly put it in the car and took it home. Someone had obviously dug it out of the ground and in the process chopped off all the large roots with a chainsaw. The trunk is about 6-8 inches across and about 1.5 meters tall. Luckily, there were a good amount of feeder roots at the base so it should fight back if it is a strong species.

I sealed the root cuts and put it in a half barrel cause it was too big for a styrofoam box. Unfortunately i had to take out my large jade tree and put that in a styrofoam box. Hopefully it wont hate me for it. Gave the monster a bit of seasol and we will see how it goes. I will continue giving it seasol weekly for a month or so and then cut it back to fortnightly.

I plan on airlayering the top off when it is established to make two trees out of it. I may even airlayer both branches to make it three depending on the species and if i like it.

Because there are no branches with any foliage on them, i have no idea what kind of tree it is. I took a close up of the bark if anyone knows what species it is.

I'm sure you will find out what spieces in spring if it survives. You will have to post the results in spring.

Could be something like a Birch and if it is a Silver Birch it could end up a respectable Bonsai.

Seal all your cuts as, if it is a Birch, it rots out quickly.

Very similar to my camphor laurel post! Bet your thinking how the 'eck do I turn this into a bonsai!?

Crepe Myrtle?

the bark does not look like is that bigger pieces but who knows the colour looks about right

Im leaning towards a birch because of the 'pimples' on the bark.
