I hate privet

Out for my regular walk with the dogs and I came across this damn *^%#^#$ weed, there is loads of privet near me and I hate the stuff but this one just had to come home. The trunk is about 11cm across and less than 2cm at its thickest

They wouldn't call it golden unless it was good for something! Knock it off at night, they won't even know it's gone till morning.

I have thought about it! But they have a dog that barks if you go near the fence . I think they just might notice a privet in my yard though. I may have to nick stuff from further away from home. There is another nice one growing at the Red Rooster near the shopping centre and I have thought about going there at 4am one morning with the shovel. I would never do it, but I have thought about it

I can't say I know what privet looks like...and if it grows in Mackay it must grow in Townsville!!! You just don't hear people talk about privet up here...must ask at the nursery.

you shouldnt be able to find privet in the nurseries any more, it is a noxious weed. it should grow anywhere really, they are tough buggers! i just recently got my first two from matt

and you will probably have more luck getting that hedge if you ask, a good way bout it is to tell them it is a noxious weed and you will take it and control it rather then it setting seed and spreading, then you say you will replace it with a fast growing native

Sorry to say this, but I regularly see golden privet at bunnings.......... I wondered if it might be different somehow?

Just ask for them. I have always succeeded by asking the owner after saying they are weeds.

I used to spy off a couple of amazing juni's at a local bottlo, I finally worked up the nerve to go and ask about them, only to discover they had been ripped out during the week

I am with Jamie, go and ask... its surprising how often people will say "you actually want that!?!?? I hate it, Knock yourself out" I am planning on doing that for an original 1930's Cecile Brunner rose I have seen in my travels, amazing trunks on it, all rotted & twisted up.

I dug one in 1990that had been planted as a hedge in 1947 by a returned service man. It had a huge trunk and lots of shari. but the first branch was about 3/4 way up and way out of proportion.
After waiting two years for it to pop down lower. I decided to airlayer, very successful it was, although the shari was now lower and touched soil, but it has not rotted.
Oh yes it WAS a golden one it has now reverted to green. So yes they do make nice Bonsai, mine at the moment is naked.
