V cutting and trunk chopping?

ELLOO!

just wondering bout trunk chopping and putting a v cut into it?
im not sure bout this as i am new at bonsai half a year on the old hobby but i have seen some trees that have been dug and v chopped?
wat does this do? does it make the tree bud from the wound around the cambium layer?

Go with the V cut. Jamies V cuts are excellent, lets have a hack Pat i have 3 trees I'm wanting to try out.

I have a Lilly Pilly that i have chopped plus a black pine and both have poped from the wound around the cambium layer

We cut a V in the top of a tree, so as to force the stump into shooting st the top of each side so we can start to build a broom style tree

For a broom, you want the trunk to stop and then 2 branches shoot from it whaich we constantly Trip to develop the ramification needed for the eventual broom tree

It has been said, that a Broom is the second hardest Style of tree do do well. Takes lots of patience and effort to get a good one

hi mate

the boys have given some good advice! and yes broom is one of the hardest styles to acheive convinvingly taking years of development and plenty of patience, the full cascade would be the other hardest to get convincingly but thats getting of topic.

here is a celtis I collected 31st of january 2009, chopped it to two foot tall from around 30 foot tall, it shot back and then I cut back and V cut out.

this is it a couple of weeks back, its in full leaf now and the structure is quite hidden.

its come along well in 10-11 months and will be a lot more years by the time I get the image I want for it, but I am prepared to do the work, cutting back hard and lots of wiring, that has been key for me to getting the tree to where it is today, I havent really cut back hard as much as just defoliated which has given the branches some taper, but it will eventually get where I want it
