I have a fair few young twisted buggers, one I have/am fusing together and they are powering on. I have wired shape in but as it gets a little older, fused and thicker I will I will end up killing off one of them which will create a nice shari and help it twist.

So how is everyones stock going (or growing )?

My efforts have been all but poor mainly due to a lack of space and as a result i havent really grown any. This year i am changing that and i have put in a bunch of Japanese black pine and Trident maple seed which is just comming up and will soon be getting potted up and then wired. I have decided the shed roof is fair game as far as bench space goes.

How is all the stock people started at the beginning of this thread? Some of it must be getting interesting?

Ok so I have had some neglected and some good performers.

The neglected ones...well they are no longer with us.
The good performers:
Shimpaku You can see the difference in size a colander gives compared to a bonsai pot

Pines Zelkova and Arakawa maple 1/4 of Next year's crop

Looking good scott. I especially like how the pine that is really twisted is turning out.

Anyone else got any growing at the moment?

The initial wiring on the really twisty one came from Leigh @ Ledanta, I'm just attempting to space it out a bit to make it a bit more natural.

It is hard wiring grounded specs though that is to fatten the a little faster

Mine are just starting to kick on again. I have not repotted any as yet. another years worth of growth first.

This tree is a JBP that (was) alive, it took three years in a pot to grow into this stage.
Roots were cut when a seedling, creating a nice root flare/nebari and then wired and encouraged sacrifice branches.
Unfortunately it is dead, the only one to mysteriously die whilst the others are extremely healthy. I'm rather perplexed.

I'll post some pictures of the other JBPs and JRPs which are actually alive... but this dead one was one of my favorites which would've been interesting as mame or shohin...

But perhaps this gives an idea how 3 years can create something nice, so I thought it might be worth showing.

Just wondering if using the block/tile/cd/plate method on a larger trunk would work. You could make a large board with a hole in the size of the subject trunk. Cut the board in half then rejoin the board around the trunk and glue and screw it back together. Would this work or would the tree be to strong and split the board. Would it root out again or just kind of strangle the tree. I know you could airlayer but thinking if working on the nebri on a larger tree this could give you a better result of even roots. I have a tree at home that might be a good candidate for this if it's possible, trunk is nice but roots tend to be one side. I could root graft but thinking this might work better.
