If you want something that branches well and has a good chance of giving you a presentable shohin in 14 months, go for the Buxus harlandfi as nr 1, or for the Callistemon. You can always try the Loropetalum (common name: Fringe flower) for fun besides. A friend of mine has a very nice Loropetalum bonsai, only it's a large one, and copious branching doesn't seem to be a feature of it.

mm am starting to think it might have been a bad idea entering the loropetalum as i'm not too sure it's going to back bud if I cut it hard.
