Hi squizzy , maybe i have been doinig it too long and needed a good break .Now it will take an effort and a half to pull them all back into shape .

Hi Mo' i haven't been reliable for so long , I think its time to down size the collection . The lack of care has seen quite a few pass on , blessed with the weather over this Summer or it would have been a total disaster . One consulation is I have plenty of empty pots for winter potting .

Cheers .Alpine

Alpine

I have been very quiet my self and have done little in the bonsai department lately other than water and a prune here and there , the bit of cooler weather and autumn arriving (proper autumn dosent start till mid april here)has spurred me on abit.I was late trimming some pines this year as well as figs so be interesting to see how they respond with the onset of the cooler weather in the coming months . I have a few banksia serrata shohin now in the grow beds for 5 years and they got a prune the other day . There progress put a smile on my face :) Good to see you found a new lease of life with them.

Hi Matthew , mate its good to know I'm not the only lone ranger when it comes to being slack on the tree department . I need another dose of inspiration to begin trimming the Chinese Elms , now thats a job for the hedge trimmer . I think if I take the time out to re-style a few old works , things will look a bit brighter on the horizon , it just seems to be rather daunting as to where to start some times .

Cheers Alpine .

The long journey began a few weeks ago , digging out close to 500 Tridents of all sorts of configuration , trimming , root pruning and organizing more combination then planting back into the re-worked grow beds . Many thanks to Steve from the Albury/Wodonga Bonsai Club for all the help in taking care of these buggers .

With around 300 plants still in the ground i should get my butt out there and dig some more .

You know, I was thinking to myself a couple of days ago "I haven't seen alpine on the forum lately, hope he's ok." Now I know why! Looks like a massive task there, but the stock produced certainly makes up for it :tu:

Hi Phoenix238 . my absence was due to internet issues , a new server , new computer , line change , wifi and nothing worked . I just couldn't log in or the site would toss me out , actually thought I was banned . After exhausting all avenues around this area Ken " KC Poole" our tech, has sorted the issues as of last night and "I'm back" . Haven't drop dead yet . Just finished the Trident now and onto the Crab apples , Horn beams and Elms in the morning . I still have 400 potted tree' to sort out as well .

Hi Birchman , mate space is something that can be utilized in so many ways . You can tier bonsai display benches , grow beds are just an oversize pot or tray . I have scoria trays with pines grown on them from small stock I purchased quite a few years ago . They are growing in planter bags on tiered benches as is a lot of stock here . My Grow beds didn't produce good results with pines or cedars so the trays and bags were used .

Hi fredman , mate its good to be back and able to view topics in there entirety . Plenty of updates to do however with all the missing pics , 12 months of progressions have been lost . Now with another computer and a new photo gallery i have to learn how to use it . Technology has left me behind  .

Struggling to find a new leader , this seasons shoot may produce the ideal branch . ,

New leader wired on this one , about 200mm shorter than last season . Like all good things it takes time 95 % of the tree's here have this type of Narebri .These have been planted back into a round shallow pot/trays , {even the dogs bowl's not safe around here} the branches are being developed for ramification , its easier in a pot as they can be rotated during the growing season . The thread graft is still connected to the host branch on number 2 , during this season I will severe this from the doner .

Cheers Alpineart.
