Any ideas on where I could find tubestock JBP? the only JBP I have seen in Adelaide is poorly grafted & overpriced and thats in 30cm pots from the big B. hence why I am after seeds. I have a lot to learn about bonsai yet, so that's why I am happy to start from seed, and learn as they grow.

Also I would hate to introduce more diseases, I wanna do things right. I just cant seem to find JBP seeds anywhere in Australia. I know they are available, but just not where. maybe someone out there can help?

Mate just call all the bonsai nurseries around, all of them will have them, and one of them will ship to you.

JBP seeds are hard to find, esp this year as pollination was pretty bad.

If you have any luck around Adelaide luke308, let me know. Would like to get my hands on some JBP stock myself.

Hi Luke,

I searched for ages and couldnt find a tree to get seed from. The other problem you have when you do find a tree is that it is hard to id it as a genuine JBP. I just thought I would post this pick up as a possible solution for yourself. Its probably a JBP but I cannot be 100% certain ( only going of what the nursery told me that sold it to me) which is loaded with pine cones in there second year of developement. I would be happy to send a few down to you but as I say I cannot be certain they are JBP. What you should do for future is pot up a tree and develop it not for bonsai but a seed stock tree. Who knows you could become australias leading JBP seed merchant.

I did exactly the same thing two months ago - spent $35 on ebay to the US and ordered some JBP seeds. Was emailed the next day by the supplier saying they can not send pine seeds to Aus. I was fairly disappointed. To repeat the question posed previously, any idea where to source some in Aus to save the hastle in going overseas Have been looking EVERYWHERE for some - to no avail. My kids are showing an interest in bonsai and i would love for them to grow some JBPs from seed that they can look after for life !

Whats interesting about this topic is that most enthusiasts become interested in and eventually obsessed with growing their own trees from seed. The reality is.. it is actually less time consuming and in the end cheaper to buy advanced stock from most Bonsai nurseries. Time is money and growing trees from seed is not as easy as you think it should be JBP seed would be great, but most of my JBP stock is 10-15 years of age.. now to grow seeds that live to this age would be a challenge and really an investment in time, because lets face it, we all want our trees to resemble something of a finished product.

So its either 1400kms east to Ray Nesci's or 2700km west to Perth. Think I might just go for a Sunday drive

G'day Scott, Mate I could not agree with you more regarding growing from seed, but I guess I've been lucky with the stock trees ive purchased in recent years, Ive been lucky enough to find a reliable nursery that knows how to grow some decent stock trees, and if they dont have it, they're always buying stock in from other nurseries and growers throughout Victoria.

But in saying that I am currently layering the top off one of my jbp's to make a nice little shohin and then a complete restyle of what's left should get me the movement I want in the base of that particular tree. I'm just a little too impatient to invest 15 years into growing on a seedling at this stage of the game.

But having a mix of trees in different stages with different plans and time frames is a great way to distract me from my longterm projects, so as to not go completely insane with my lack of patience!

I think I might buy 20 or 30 JBP seedlings, put them aside, give them lots of food, the required annual maintenance and see how we're looking on my 48th birthday
